Uh, I've Been Blogging For How Long? | STACIE RAYE

Uh, I've Been Blogging For How Long?

Over the weekend, I posted my 2500th post.  With almost 4 years of blogging under my belt, I wondered how it feel once I met the upcoming goal.

I've thought about how many hours, days, and weeks I have spent in front of my laptop or desktop computer.  All of which for very, very, little compensation, more about that later.

I've gone through quite a few phases. From different color schemes and blog templates to a recent blog name change, which I'm beginning to wonder if it was a good idea or not.  I've had my ups and downs.  Days when I would crank out 4 or 5 deal posts a day, to weeks where I didn't feel like typing a thing.

I started out feeling gun ho, excited about saving money and I couldn't wait to tell the world how great it was.  Turns out, many bloggers were already telling the world and most people I knew really weren't as excited about coupons as I was.  And, to top it off, I had been blogging about these deals without the proper affiliate links, so I was...heck, sometimes still am, blogging for free.  No one told me that you should actually get paid for the articles you write.

I never really knew how bloggers were leaving their jobs and  pursuing full time careers as work at home moms.  Don't get me wrong, I have gotten a few perks, but perks don't pay bills do they?

Which brings me back to reason I blog in the first place.  I blog because I want to.  I like blogging and if others like what I have to say, great!  I mean, I would love it if I made a gazillion bucks and had a trillion readers, but until then, I'll keep doing what I'm doing.  More beauty posts.  A few freebies with a few links sprinkled in...hey a sista's got a family to feed!  Focusing more on what I enjoy writing about, products I like and the YouTube videos that I looovvvveee to make.

But the best part of my journey is the fellow bloggers I have met in the process.  Well known bloggers who have put me on or should I say sharing opportunities with me that I would have missed out on.  A few I have built a relationship with even to the point of an occasional phone call or email - just to see how I'm doing.  Not to mention those who have taken time to write me back when I had lots of questions lol.  You all know who you are. It has made writing more enjoyable and worth my efforts. : )

Now it's your turn.  What about you?  How long have you been blogging and what has your journey been like?  What do you think about getting compensated for your work?  Do you care or are you blogging for the love of it?  Do tell!

  4. Congratulations on your goal! Wow, you've been at it a long time. I like your new name, but then it's the only one I've known you by. Good Luck with your next 2500!

  5. Wow, 2,500?! I think I have about that many as well... uh, hmm? Last time I looked, I guess. LOL

Well, I started blogging about five or six years ago. I had a blog (it's still out there) called Single & Celibate. At the time I loved writing on that topic, but I got a bit bored with such a narrow subject matter and my freelance magazine article writing assignments started drying up which meant the variety wasn't there any longer.

So, I started It's a woman's world so I could talk about whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. That's the short version of the story. I write because I really love to do it. I wrote book and product reviews in the "real world" so I continued to do so. I like the perks as well, but I think the money is better at this point! (Too much stuff building up around here.) AND blogging is something I would do even if I didn't get paid.

  7. Petula- Sounds like you have been at it a long time too! I'm glad you started writing at A Women's World, although I'm sure it would have been interesting to read your other blog as well.
I would defiantly keep blogging if pay wasn't involved, but I am working on doing more paid posts.
    Thanks sis!

  8. Visiting from SITS.

I've been blogging a little over a year. Don't make any money yet but I want to. I'm not sure I would do this forever if I don't make anything! It's a LOT of work - much more than I expected when I started. I'm not trying to get rich - just supplement the income a little. But if that doesn't happen, I don't know if I could give it up. I really love blogging.
