Madly In Love with Me Book Review

I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

On this Valentine's Day, I wanted to do a little something different and share a book I've been reading tittled "Madly In Love with Me", the daring adventure of becoming your own best friend. Sounds like an interesting concept doesn't it?

This book tackles the tough issue of loving one's self, or self-love which is not supposed to be confused with having self esteem.

The book starts off telling a story about how a group of well educated, successful women were asked the question if they had self esteem.  Without question, the women answered yes!  But when they were asked if they had self love, the place was quiet

Author Christine Arylo goes in depth throughout the book to try to uncover the real meaning of self love, not being selfish, narcissistic, or perverted.

This book is broken down into 3 parts:

1. See The Love: The truth about self - love
2. Grow The Love: The self love tree and the 10 branches of self-love
3. Amplify The Love: secrets to cultivating a long lasting relationship with yourself

Yesterday, women across the nation took part in Self Love Day, a day dedicated to loving you, by participating in a virtual self love party.  After all, if you don't love yourself, how can you love others, right?

My thoughts

I know that as women, we are supposed to have a healthy relationship with ourselves, a good self esteem.  But, as a christian woman, I have to admit that the message of self love is a bit hard to accept. We are taught from young ages to give to others and that if you put yourself above others, you are indeed selfish and not walking in love.  I know that the author is trying to convey a different type of message, but some things are so embedded in our society, that hearing something different is not only foreign, but uncomfortable.

What do you think about the message of self-love?  What does self-love mean to you?

  2. This sounds like a great book! I love self help books I think they are important. I think a healthy balance is important. They say you have to be able to love yourself before you can give love to others. If you aren't happy it shows and your mood can easily be passed on to others. I think this would be a great read as long as you keep an open mind. I love hearing different points of views. Great post! #SITSBlogging
