Good News for Weary Women Book Review

Have you ever felt pressured to be this outstanding woman, a Proverbs 31 woman, and felt that you don't measure up?  Getting up early in the morning to clean, have dinner ready,  make business deals all while lookin' sharp! I mean, just how did she do all of that?  There's only so many hours in a day sister girl!

Honestly, there are probably a lot of women who are in a rat race, trying to be everything to everyone.  Can I get an amen?!

In the book, "Good New for Weary Women" that I received complimentary, author Elyse M. Fitzpatrick tackles tough issues that sometimes women in the church are taught as a way to control or manipulate women into filling roles in order to accomplish the goals of the local church.

Each chapter, the book asks if you have received bad advice such as,

Be at church every time the doors open, and teach Sunday school even if you don't work well with kids,
Do everything that you are asked to do in the church, never say no.
Have a daily Prov. 31 checklist,
Have natural childbirth,
always submit,
...and so on.

The end of the Bad Advice list is always leaves you with a scripture reference called the Good News.

Thoughts

When I chose this book to review, my thought was that it would be a guide for women who have too much on their plate and how they can successful balance it all. It ended up being geared more toward the Christian women who is stuck trying to be too many things to too many people, specifically religious folks.  You know the kind, those that say if you are really a woman of God, you would be doing XYZ.

Thank God, I learned long ago that this is not a healthy way to live and it can become a form of bondage if you let it.  While I didn't agree with everything in this book, If you or someone you know may be going through this, it might be a good place to start.

    1. Right! I was hoping for something a bit different, but I know people have gone through this so it could be helpful for someone out there.

  3. Wow preach!! You can't be everything to everybody and you must place priorities or you will be swallowed up whole. I'm learning that more and more every day. Sounds like an interesting book. #productreviewparty.
