Time "Get On Up" Y'all!

I received the DVD in exchange for my post.  Opinions are always my own! Affiliate link.

Last year, the Hubbs and I scored free tickets to see "Get On Up - The James Brown Story", from Gofobo or something like it.  I didn't feel like going that day, but I knew he had wanted to see it so I pressed my way to attend.

Our African American local radio station and newspaper were sponsoring the movie screening and everyone was excited about seeing the show.  Even I began to feel better.

From the moment the show started and all throughout, people were laughing and snapping their fingers, while the old folks were singing along.  I was a down right good time!

The story of James Brown was  a sad one.  He had seen many sorrows in his young life but his love for music helped him endure until he finally became the legend we know of today.  I found his story touching and it made me see the Godfather of Soul in a whole new light.  And Chadwick Boseman played that part y'all!

Get On Up can now be purchased on DVD, and Blu-Ray combo pack and trust me it will not disappoint. You'll find bonus features and exclusives such as deleted and alternate scenes.  You may not have the exact experience I did in the theater, but I bet it'll be hard not get up and start dancing.

Have you seen "Get On Up"?  What did you think of it?

  1. I know the Mr. and I would enjoy it. He plays music and we have always loved James Brown. I kept telling him I wanted to see him in person before he passed and we never made it to a concert. He was a legend. I'd love to see more of his back story, even if it is filled with heartache. Theresa @DearCreatives

  4. I haven't seen this movie, but it sounds like it was a blast to see in the theater. I've only experienced that type of movie going experience with one other movie and it was the Michael Jackson movie: This is It. I saw it on opening day and everybody had a total blast in the theater singing along, etc.
