What I'm Reading: Make Up By Michelle Phan

I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

If you are up on all things makeup and YouTube, you know who Michelle Phan is.  She's one of the O.G. beauty vloggers that has become very successful as a result of her make up tutorials.

When I saw that the infamous YouTuber Michelle Phan had a book to review, I signed up to receive my complimentary copy.  I wanted to know the story behind this YouTube star and her success.

In the beginning of the book, she tells the story of how she began as an artist drawing Anime and saved up her money to purchase a Macbook.  She goes on to share how she started making her videos and realizing that you could actually make money on YouTube.  And, the rest...well you know how it goes.

Michelle Phan Make Up: Your Life Guide to Beauty, Style, and Success--Online and Off

"Make Up: Your Guide to Beauty, Style, & Success - Online and Off", is an all-in-one guide on how to do all sorts of things not just make up.  Some of the topics discussed inside this book cover:

*Skincare
*Basic makeup tips such as picking out and applying foundation and tweezing your eyebrows.
*Hair and Nails including foot care and how to wear wigs
*Fashion tips and tricks including how to build a wardrobe and dressing for different occasions
*Digital Do's and Don't's that include the art of texting and online romance
*How to find and keep a job
*How to turn your passion into profit
*Manners
and so much more!

My Thoughts

This book is really geared more toward a teen or young adult.  Some of the ideas are a bit basic, but you can still learn something new, especially if you don't know the first thing about applying make up.

What I love about Michelle Phan is that her wholesome values shine though.  She became famous on YouTube without being trashy, which says something about her character.  I would definitely recommend this book to young ladies that are in need of a "How To" resource on life.

You can purchase Make Up on Amazon.

  1. Hi Stacie, Nice review. I love that she kept her values while building her brand. Many times we (Sammie & I) talk about how trashy people can be trying to get attention on social platforms/media.( no offence to anyone but, you know)

    1. There are two chapters that talk about her success. No deep secrets though. Basically, just be true to yourself!

  10. Awesome! I'm not big on watching beauty videos but definitely know of her, so that's great she has a book! I'm definitely elementary kinda when it comes to make-up. LOL I too, would've thought it would have more "secrets to success" tips in there.

  12. I seen this book in Target I believe and almost bought it for a road trip read but I figured it would be more geared towards people that are just getting into makeup and teens. I'm happy for Michelle Phan's success, very inspiring! #ProductReviewParty
