School is officially in session. You survived the first days of back to school and it’s time for a little self-care.
Summertime can be so busy! We often are out and about enjoying the warm weather and we don’t always get the “me time” that we need.
Now is the perfect time to start practicing self-care again and/or tackle those things that you’ve been putting off. Here is a list of ideas to do for yourself.
10 Things to Do for Yourself When the Kids go Back to School
1. Go somewhere and dance like no one is watching! You made it through the summer and you finally have the house to yourself again.
2. Take a relaxing bath. I don’t know about you but I rarely carve out time to take a long bath since showering is quicker. Pour in some bath salts for aromatherapy.
3. Go get your hair or nails done. A new hairstyle can do wonders for your mood!
4. Take a solo walk around a lake or along the beach. Breathing in the fresh air is both calming and relaxing.
5. Treat yourself to something new. Even if it costs a dollar. Just make sure it’s something affordable that won’t break the bank and cause stress in the long run.
6. Take a “me” day during school hours. Do what you love to do, just be back in time to get the kids. If you’re a working mom, take an extended lunch break or leave early to do whatever makes you feel good.
7. Schedule that much-needed doctor or dentist appointment. Get that mammogram or physical you’ve been putting off. Taking care of your health is the best way to practice self-care.
8. Meet a friend for coffee or lunch. This is a great time to catch up on life and get in a few good laughs too.
9. Clean the house. I know what you’re thinking. How is cleaning practicing self-care? Oh, but it is girlfriend. A clean house helps you function better.
10. Do the one thing you have been putting off while the kids have been at home. Whatever it is, just do it.

Love this list. As soon as she went back I treated myself to a cut & color. We did our nails together at home after school one day. Giving a little pampering to her being back in school. I need to clean & freshen up my decor for fall. That is a big one on my list. 😉
I haven't been able to do anything for myself yet. Well, I did paint my nails one day. 🙂 … And I'm due a therapeutic massage. I better schedule that soon.
Girl yesterday was my son's first day back to school after finishing camp like 3 weeks ago. My little ones were in daycare so I took the day off just to get peace and quiet while it lasted.
Great list! Although the kids have gone back to school, things have gotten even more hectic! I'll have to make some time for some of these for sure!
I especially like this list because it doesn't break the bank.
I home school, but these are much needed self care tips. Thank you so much for sharing them with us.
Oh, yes! We start back next week. I have plans to nap and clean. There's a few lunch dates in there too.
Yes! You're so right about cleaning. There's nothing like sitting in a kid-free, clean zone!
I don't have children but these are great tips for self care. Thanks for sharing.
Great list. I have already be one a few of these and will be doing more next week!!!
Good advice. I do the hair and nail treat often as it helps me relax and regroup. We definitely need me time so we can be at our best for our family!
I don't have any grade school kids, I'll be the one going back to school but a pedicure definitely still is on my to do list!
These are all great things to do. I try my best to steal away some me time even if it is just 30 minutes.
cute simple list. I dont have kids yet but when I do I would love to take a kid-free mini vacay before the kids go back…because I know many parents feel like when the kids go back to school their vacation time is over too…so do that!
Omg, I did 5/10 of these things already. Insert happy dance riiii hurr!! People who have not taken time for themselves lately do not know the benefits.
