Side Kicks For Teens: How to start a business

It''s hump day and were half way to the weekend. In stead of having a "Wordless Wednesday", I decided that I would use this day of the week to share my "Side Kick" ideas.

Most of us know a kid that has a side hustle of some sort. Whether it's the neighborhood teen that offers to shovel your walk or mow your grass, or your own child that desires to make some money of their own.
At the age of 13, my daughter approached me with the idea of making and selling lip balm which led to the birth of You Go Girl!, and bath and body products company that we started together. The business has since closed, and my daughter very much into blogging now. Hmm, I wonder where she gets that from!

Through my experience, I found that a lot of teens and younger kids want to know how to start a business. They have fantastic ideas, but aren't sure how to get going. So I put together a presentation and shared it with a local girls group.
One of my examples of a youth making it today was Jasmine Lawrence, who started

Eden Body Works, a hair care company which is now worth 3 Million. (I actually picked up some of this at Walmart and I love the Peppermint scent)! Also, Chancey Hollowman, who owns Harlem Lyrics. Her urban greeting card company is worth 1.2 Million. Both of these ladies started in their early teens!
I have always believed in creating your own wealth and my kids have picked up on that early. I remember when we had our bookstore, my children would sell candy to my customers and their friends at school. They did well too, and those same skills have stayed with them today!
If you have youth that want to start their own business, a great resource is Score. The have a huge list of websites specifically for young entreprenuers.

Just remeber to encourage your kids, and let them know that they can do it!

Good luck!
