Staying Relevant: The End of GFC & My Pinterest/Google+ News

As a blogger, you are always bombarded with the need to stay in the loop regarding new social networking tools.  I'm often hesitant about jumping on every bandwagon that goes down my street.

Google+ was just another one of those sites that looked like everyone was joining, but I didn't have a desire to.

That is until I found out that Google Friend Connect is ending their program on March 1st for non blogger blogs.  Exactly what does that mean?  I use blogger, but not all of my followers do, so will they disappear?  Will I no longer be able to follow those blogs I love that don't use blogger?  Ugh, I'm not sure what will happen with this.  I guess I'll find out... soon!

You might ask, what does Google+ have to do with this?  Well, it looks like GFC is encouraging it users to sign up with G+ to keep up with your readers there.  What?  Oh, I get it.  Join our social network and you won't lose your subscribers.  : /

Hmmm, I don't think I'm liking this option.  The last thing I need is another wanna be facebook account to have to maintain.  I'd rather keep connecting with my readers via RSS, facebook, and twitter. Nevertheless, I did sign up.  Not because I wanted to, but in order to stay relevant.  I probably won't use it much.  Not now anyways.

Now about Pinterest.  I have to be real honest with you.  I have heard about it for sometime now and had no intention of joining. Why did people care about posting their favorite pictures on virtual pin boards.  Beats me- well that's what I thought.  Again, in order to look like I'm in the know, I asked for an invitation.  And got one, a few weeks ago.  I put it off because I still didn't quite get it.

But one day that all changed.  I was board and thought, let me go ahead and sign up. That was like, 3 days ago and I'm hooked!  I get it now and it's my new obsession!  I've even been waking up in the middle of the night thinking of new boards I can create!  My account is VERY new, but I hope you'll come check me out.  I even found a cool new blog that I like from using Pinterest.  I guess that's the whole point, right?

So, what about you?  What do you think of all the changes that are taking place in the blogosphere?  Any trends that you'll jump on or will you pass?

Oh by the way, Follow Me on Pinterest

  1. I took my gfc badge off my sidebar a year ago. Google+ sucks! Oh and not to mention that gfc was a waste of my time! I'll be mean and say its karma for.all those that have thousands of followers and never followed them back ha! I signed up for pinterest went on a few minutes but I'm not hooked. After all the underlined hidden stuff going on with them. It's another think that's not worth my time. Im sick of making people rich. Sorry guess I had to vent :-)

Holla at your girl!
