Cheerios: Smart About Diabetes

The information and prize pack have been provided by General Mills through Plateful Coop.

A while back, my husband was diagnosed with Diabetes.  At the time, he was able to adjust his eating and exercise a eventually reversed the diagnosis.  Several years later, it has once again reared it's ugly head and we're finding that it's time to re-evaluate our eating.

One thing is obvious.  We have to cut sugar out of our diet.  This has proven to be very difficult for us all, but it's something we just have to do.  Me included.

First things first.  I have to start our day right.  And that means, planning a breakfast that is low in sugar. That's where Cheerios comes in.  We all know that eating Cheerios is a great way to start your day.
But did you know Cheerios also:

  • Contains beta-glucan, which can help to lower cholesterol*
  • Is a 1 Carb Choice product
  • Has just 1 Gram of Sugar
  • Has 100% Whole Grain Oats as the first ingredient
*three of soluble fiber daily from whole grain oat foods, like Cheerios cereal, in a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk if heart disease.  Cheerios cereal provides 1 gram per serving.

This is great news for someone like me who is trying to keep healthier food options in her home.

Do you have Diabetes or know someone who has it?  What ways do you prepare healthy meals for your family?

What's on your mind?
